Backpackers Travel Insurance
If you are a student, planning a gap year, a Backpacker policy is specifically designed to cover extended trips.
We realise that you like to keep a tight check on your finances and have priced our long term travel policy accordingly. It offers a very competitive quote but will offer you complete protection in the event of an emergency. It is important to have full medical cover whilst you are travelling. When it can cost at least £150,000 for heart surgery in the USA, or £12,000 for an air ambulance back from Spain you can see that the consequences could be catastrophic. But it is not only for emergency treatment that a travel policy is invaluable. What if you have toothache, the pain can be debilitating, but our policy will cover you for up to £350 in emergency pain relief. When you are looking for travel insurance, check that the policy matches the particular risks that you are likely to face. If you don't have your baggage covered on your House Insurance make sure that it will be covered on your travel policy. If you don't have any kind of cover for your baggage you would not be reimbursed in the event of loss of personal effects including money and your passport. Travel insurance would also cover you in the event of your luggage being delayed on your outward journey and help with the cost of buying replacement necessities. An insurance policy would also cover you in the event of your passport being lost or stolen. As replacing a passport will require a visit to the Consulate you may have to pay out for travel and accommodation costs.
A Backpacker policy represents good value for money but it does have some limitations of which you need to be aware. We can only cover you to be out of the country for up to 12 months and we cannot extend your cover whilst you are away. Also, it is only valid for a single trip and cover will cease once you return to the UK. Therefore if you come home early you cannot use the same policy again. You may wish to try some new sporting activities whilst you are away, but you must check that they are going to be covered under the terms and conditions of your policy. Our policy will cover you for some activities such as Scuba Diving down to 30 meters, wind surfing, water skiing and trekking along recognised routes. If you are going to be attempting something potentially dangerous – such as skiing, white water rafting or abseiling – be aware that these would be excluded from cover and you would need to make alternative arrangements. Before traveling, it is advisable to do some research on the countries you will be visiting. Look at the Foreign Office website, and make yourself aware of any changes in the political climate, any environmental dangers or potential health risks. Most importantly, look at the Travel Advice on the same website to make sure that it is safe to travel to certain countries.
